Nerikomi is the Japanese word for a pottery making process whereby contrasting coloured pieces of clay are arranged in a mosaic-like fashion. In my iteration of the nerikomi technique, I layer coloured clay, compress the layers, take slice from the side, and press it into tableware items such as bowls, plates and cups. I also use the off-cuts of the process to create further functional pieces and sculptural works, using novel and hybrid making methods.
